Plants's Will

In my home town, there is a big square with many trees and flower-beds. When I passed by, a phenomenon drew my attention. You know, when the constructor designed this square, they defined a area for trees and grass 's growth.

However, the grass's growth was beyond control, since it has its own will.
This phenomenon enlightened my thinking. From my perspective, the plant has its own will. As the student of the Architecture, I think, when we design the buildings, the artificial  intervention is too much. Of course, we can intervene, but we should think about the methods.
Based on the biological characters of plants, we can control the plants's shape and function by sunshine, water, wind, fertilizer, etc. They are more natural and scientific than just defining a place for plants which is simply.
I hope I can find a special way of being harmonious with nature.Less artificial intervention.

Nature's Colour

We always use the colour matching which comes from the books or software to help us match and select colours.
However, I find that if you want to match the nice colours, you can get the inspiration and ideas from the nature. Nature creates the most beautiful colours in the world. Like the Spanish architect Gaudi, his original architectural shapes all came from the shapes of nature.
Today, I look a picture album about birds which have the nice colours.

Kindergarten of Jiading New Town and Youth Center of Qingpu

Through the magazine, I knew thses projects in the university's library. Then, in the end of 2012, I went to Shenzheng, I met them again in the GUAN SHANYUE ART MUSEUM. There was a first exhibition about Chinese Design, called China Design Exhibition 2012, including Graphic Design, Product Design, Space Design, Cross-over Design.

It is a special part, since it belongs to the interior space, connecting the exterior space, which gives me a feeling: I can feel this tree belongs to me, but I cannot get it.
Interior courtyard not only brings  nature into interior space, it also can generate a wonderful feelings.

Strech Ideas with Corridor, Courtyard and Sculpture

Before I write this article, I wrote 2 articles about sculpture and Japanese residence. Now, I want to show how I use them to stretch my ideas.
First, I know I want to bring nature into my house. It means I will have the interior landscape.

When I drew these drafts, I found that corridors were interesting parts, because they can connect the space and divide the space into several parts. For instance, the same function is in the Japanese residence.

So, I tried to apply these in my design.

During this process, I also took the courtyard into consideration.

And about the entrance of the house, the sculpture enlightened me. I selected my interesting part form the sculpture. The composition is flexible. They are like the "wall" and "mass" elements of buildings. The permutation of the sculpture is picturesque disorder. Walls are different from the masses, they not only enrich the space, but also enrich our vision.

Architecture and Composition of Paintings

Some architects use the composition of art works to do their work, such as painting. In Joe's tutorial, she showed us a architect chose a part of painting's composition and used that part which he was interested in as his designing element. Then, he tried to change the shape of that part to fit the site.
According to this, I confirmed that there is a relationship between art and architecture. I saw the picture in the Tate Gallery. When I first saw it, I was in the front of it. It looked like a planar painting.

Actually, it is three-dimensional. This kind of way is not new, but it shows the possibility of art and architecture.

When I stretch my ideas, I want to try something which transform from the painting's composition, because it is nice about the point, line and area.

You know, in the earlier year of Zaha, she was influenced by the Russian painter Kandinsky. She used the composition to do her architectures.

Japanese Residence

Sometimes, I have to admit that the process of design is painful in here. Joe is strict with us. I know she is a  nice person, although her words are hard. She asks us to stretch our ideas constantly and she pushes us to carry on.
She gave some pieces of advice for my house and her words reminded me of the Japanese garden. I do not know why when I come here, I forget some traditional things of Asia, such as the traditional garden and artistic conception. But to my surprise, Joe mentioned it for me, which guided me.
This Japanese residence has the interior yard which is what I want. The nature should come into the interior space and corridors not only connect the space, but also separate the space.

Learn From Tutors

1.Watching people. On Wed, thanks to Joe, I realized this point.  When Joe talked with Jessie, I listened their conversation carefully, which was pretty beneficial to me. Observation is important to painters and also is important to designers. Only we know people's mind and behaviours, we can design the considerable and thoughtful houses. For example, when people come back home, they may feel tired and they want to put their bag aside. So, there is a table where people can put their bag on it and a sofa where people can lay on it.
2.Imagination. On Thurs, I met Jane. When she looked my plan, she tried to pretend a mother to explain the function and flow.I have to admit that sometimes when I think about the function, I am a little selfish, because I did not pretend every number in this family to think about the function. You know, that will be not thoughtful. I must think about all the problems form everyone's perspective in that family.

When I think about my plan, I analysed the space. My conclusion is the hybrid space.

Next, I tried some bubbles. And I found that I ignored the outdoor connecting space. Actually, it is a interesting space, since it can be a green space which act an environmental filter. So, I wanted to use it to do something different.

After Thurs, I accepted some pieces of advice and modified my plan.
